The problem is acknowleged by Avid, but the solutions (do not work) are useless. There is a Tech Note in Avid Knowledge Base if you search for Avid 3d. Avid 3d will work for a day or two, then it will die again. Temporary Solution 2) Go into your Video Card settings and change the profile to Softimage 3d. Reinstall Avid 3d will work for a day or two, then it will die again. Then delete anything that has Avid 3d in it. Temporary Solution 1) After uninstalling Avid 3d, use the windows search feature and type in Avid 3d. Because of Softimage3Ds entrenched user base, minor revisions continued until the final version of Softimage3D, version 4.0, was released in 2002. Here are some remidies that I figured out myself that have temporarily worked for me. Microsoft has hot fixes, but they did not work for me. If you search on Google, with the error you are receiving, you will also see many gamers are having problems with games the quit the same way. I have tried reinstalling Avid 3D (and uninstalling/reinstalling), but nothing seems to help. We've done some immunizations with SpyBot and SpywareBlaster. These editors had also been infected with some spyware products, but we've removed everything that SpyBot and AdAware could find. This software reportedly used to work, but I have yet to see it function. When we attempt to launch Avid 3D (The window title before crash states "Avid 3D v.1") on either of the systems, the software crashes and we receive an error message. I recently inherited maintenance of two Windows-based Avid systems running Studio.
